A basecamp for fun, a stay at the resort makes it effortless to experience Southern Utah at its most magnificent. Situated in the heart of the Greater Zion area, the resort is a short drive from two of America’s most stunning national parks, and many other amazing natural resources, offering boundless opportunities for exploration and adventure. Not only is St. George positioned as one of the gateways to Zion National Park, but many other areas in Greater Zion boast their own unique adventures amidst red-rock cliffs, black lava rocks, luminescent blue waters and 300+ days of sunshine. A few adventure locations a short drive from the resort include these amazing experiences:

Snow Canyon State Park. The sandstone cliffs of Utah provide perfect natural scenery for the beauty of our state. If you want to surprise your family with a trip that has the perfect mix of adventure and nature, this is the right place. Snow Canyon State Park is one of the most popular and charming parks in Southern Utah, and is a stone’s throw from the resort.

Gunlock State Park. Gunlock State Park’s waterfalls typically run in the late spring, however when not running the reservoir’s warm, calm waters are ideal for boating, kayaking, paddleboarding, canoeing and swimming. Gunlock’s hike is a 1.2-mile out-and-back trail.

Kayenta Korrals Wild Mustang Sanctuary. Wildhorse Wisdom, “where heart meets horse”, is a unique community whose programs honor the divine nature of horses and recognize the American Wild Horse as our guide to self-awareness, tolerance and patience. Your interaction with horses is part of a willing relationship between human and horse in a playful, insightful manner that develops trust and confidence.

Sand Hollow State Park. A crown jewel in the middle of the Greater Zion desert is Sand Hollow. With its warm, blue waters and red sandstone landscape, one of Utah’s newer state parks is also one of its most popular. Boat, fish, and dive at the Sand Hollow Reservoir, and explore and ride the dunes of Sand Mountain on an off-highway vehicle.

Quail Creek Reservoir. The reservoir has some of the warmest waters in the state and attracts visitors year-round. This sunny, high-desert locale has views of the tranquil reservoir and red rock cliffs and is ideal for a fantastic day on the water fishing, boating, kayaking, paddle boarding, swimming, hiking, and biking.

Kanarraville Falls. This is one of the most accessible and picturesque slot canyons and waterfalls in Southern Utah, and flows year-round. Hidden falls are nestled among red rock walls, with only one word to describe and that is spectacular! The creek side trail is 3.5 miles round trip and great for kids. For the adventurous, climb the ladder above the first falls and hike up to the lesser-visited second falls.

Bryce Canyon National Park. Bryce Canyon National Park’s unique landscape separates itself from the other national parks found in the United States. The park’s famous crimson red hoodoos and bizarre rock formations, mixed in with a vast network of interconnected hiking trails, make it a must-visit destination.

Zion Balloons. This locally owned and operated family business promises hot air balloon experiences that fill your heart with joy! From breathtaking views to the serenity of floating high above the landscape, a balloon experience offers a unique vantage point to explore the extraordinary beauty of Southern Utah.

Zion National Park. Gaze up at massive sandstone cliffs of cream, pink, and red that soar into a brilliant blue sky. Angels Landing is a 1,488-foot-tall rock formation with a renowned trail cut into solid rock which leads to the top and provides panoramic views of Zion Canyon. Situated on the North Fork of the Virgin River and upstream of the main canyon, The Narrows, a slot canyon, is one of the premier hikes in the park and on the Colorado Plateau, and one of the coolest spots around on a hot day.

Brian Head Ski Resort. Just 1.5 hours from Black Desert Resort and with a base elevation of 9,600 feet, Brian Head is the highest elevation of any ski resort in Utah. Offering 650 acres, 72 trails and 8 lifts, and amazing red rock vistas. Who knew you could ski so close to Southern Utah?

Culture in our backyard

Tuacahn Center for the Arts is a Broadway-quality musical theater and concert venue open all year long. Tucked in to the red rocks and surrounded by a natural amphitheater, this venue is breathtaking. You will even get treated to a fireworks show each night.

The Kayenta Art Village is a growing enclave featuring art galleries, studios, theater, art festivals, restaurants, and an art school. Kayenta is often regarded as an artist colony of sorts and a hub of cultural and social activity not to be missed.

Golf at Black Desert Resort

At the heart of our resort lies Tom Weiskopf’s 73rd and final masterpiece: a breathtaking 18-hole, 7,500-yard championship black rock golf course. With state-of-the- art practice facilities—including a driving range equipped with Trackman technology, a dedicated chipping green, and an illuminated two-acre, 36-hole putting green—this might just be the perfect place to learn the game, even if you’ve never picked up a club.
